Barry used to brag to his friends how he could stay employed at a challenging and fulltime job and get smashed just about every night. Sadly, after engaging in this “party” lifestyle for approximately five-and-a-half years, he began to manifest a variety of alcohol related problems.
Barry Begins to Display Various Alcohol Related Issues
As an example, he had a hard time getting up for work because he felt so tired when he awoke. Moreover, almost every morning Barry had a severe hangover. It was apparent that the combination of his hangovers and his lack of energy did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To make things worse, approximately a week ago he received his second DUI in the past eleven weeks.
To complicate things further, at his job his last two work appraisals were not up to his usual high standards. And lastly, his relationship with his girlfriend had worsened due to his lack of patience, financial difficulties, angry outbursts, and his depression.
Though Barry was only twenty six years old, he simply started looking like he was in his early forties. Sadly, this is what abusive and irresponsible drinking can do to an individual. And in all honesty he realized that he was going through the adverse effects of alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction and that he was too young to squander his life to abusive and careless drinking. So initially he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Regrettably, he soon grasped the fact that he lost all control after ingesting his first drink. Stated more precisely, after his first drink he invariably proceeded to get smashed. Due to the fact that this was a circumstance that was repeated every time he went to a bar to drink, this obviously troubled him a great deal. In truth, he began to wonder if he was manifesting some of the signs of alcoholism and alcohol abuse.
Barry Decides Make an Appointment to See His Doctor
After discussing his excessive alcohol consumption and his abusive and unhealthy drinking with his girlfriend, he eventually decided to schedule an appointment to see his healthcare professional. When Barry saw his healthcare professional, he genuinely declared that he has been drinking in an excessive manner, that he may be exhibiting alcoholic signs, and that he wants to abstain from drinking. He then confirmed that drinking responsibly and in moderation doesn’t work for him and, consequently, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.
Barry also told his healthcare professional about his depression and how this mental health issue was adversely influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His healthcare practitioner referred Barry to Doctor Norris, a drug and alcohol addiction psychiatrist, who influenced Barry to enroll in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic as an in-patient for alcohol detox and alcohol rehab. Fortunately, Barry would also be able to get medical attention for his depression at this treatment facility.
Quitting Drinking Was the Best Decision Barry Had Ever Made
After four months of rigorous treatment, Barry left the in-patient treatment clinic and continued his recovery via outpatient counseling and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Inspired to change his life in a healthier way, Barry went to a health store and bought some vitamins and a cookbook. He then joined a fitness center and began working out two or three times per week. Within six months Barry was a new person. He wasn’t depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, he now looked younger than he was, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also didn’t resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more loving individual in his relationship with his lady friend. In short, abstaining from drinking was the best decision Barry had ever made.
