Learning Not To Use Bipolar Medication On Bipolar In Children

by admin on August 21, 2009

Bipolar disorder in children can be very different than those that are experienced by adults, this is a known fact. Other symptoms like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or depression can be confused with bipolar. When bipolar is found in children it significantly interferes with their everyday life at home, in school and with friends.

Early Signs to look out for

When you find your children not listening, their behaviors very bad, public behaviors humiliating and to top it all up they wont listen. Well, join the club with your problems and getting your child to behave is much easier than you think. But, with bipolar children there is a right and a wrong way of doing things.

Doing it the Wrong Way

Because we have been brought up by shouting and punishment we believe that it will work for bipolar in children. The fact is, it won’t work. It is important to remember you are dealing with a brain problem, not your unusual ordinary child. Even when we yell, shout, and hand out different types of punishments, three out of four bipolar kids get up to behaviors they already KNOW are wrong and yet, continue to do them. It is surprising, that the key to ending these problem behaviors is actually to STOP threatening punishments and instead offer rewards.

Addiction Behaviors

Like gamblers who are addicted, you can at least have some idea on children who are being addicted to something mainly their wild behaviors. These bipolar children are reliant on their very behaviors – such as fighting with other children and temper tantrums. Parents and caregivers must first understand and know why the child is doing what they are doing. The first one is to know that it is a mental illness, and once we know these truths, we can now begin to give positive encouragements to our children. The result can surprise everyone.

What Works for These Children

Arguing and shouting doesn’t work and may have a negative result rather than a positive one. In the case of giving a task like tiding up, helping in the yard outside, and taking responsibility for their play things don’t make it chore! When they finish every task try to make a big show of appreciation and thank them for what they have done. Always look for any opportunity to offer them, a congratulatory hug or word after they have done something good. Your positive comments works wonders in their brain. You in fact are training their mind to react to positive words and actions.  Always remember these formulas, Negative action = Negative reaction and Positive action from parents = Positive reaction from kids.

Problems with Diagnosing Children

All bipolar drugs are powerful ” overuse can result in overdose.

All bipolar drugs are powerful ” which can result in overdose.

Quite heavy-handed, some psychiatrists when dealing with bipolar children.

Side effects can be telling, which can result in hair loss, weight gain, and acne (small swelling on the skin),a big problem for children with very sensitive skin.

Have Been Put to the Test

Proven by lots of parents, the body can recover itself without the use of strong bipolar medication. The two words required are being POSITIVE and learning to stay PATIENT.
